Introduction

The coin toss lasted only a few seconds, but its result determined the four Cuspidor Editors’ fate. After a brief wobble, the coin landed tails up.

“Yes! We’re going to Jimmy’s!” Sonia exclaimed, already envisioning her favourite cup of coffee.

“Pumpkin Spice latte, here I come!” Sumin said, pulling on her jacket.

Angela and Madi were less enthusiastic, but dutifully packed their bags and prepared to head out as well. Despite being resolute Starbucks fans, they understood the binding power of the coin toss.

The Editors walked briskly down Ossington to Jimmy’s, in a hurry to finish editing and putting together the layout for Cuspidor. However, when they finally arrived, Jimmy’s was closed.

“Starbucks it is!” crowed Madi, high-fiving Angela. But this too proved futile. The lineup for limited edition Starbucks holiday cups snaked around the block, preventing the Editors from entering the store.

“Where will we go now?” asked Angela, “Surely our only option isn’t the UTS library?” She shuddered, thinking of the pandemonium that usually ensued during lunch in the library.

“Don’t worry,” said Sumin, “I’ve got us covered. Let’s go to Ideal Coffee, it’s only a few blocks away.”

The Editors were cheered by the “Open” sign hanging on the door of Ideal Coffee. After buying drinks and sitting down, they were ready to take on the arduous task before them. The Editors spent a peaceful afternoon at the coffee shop, finishing the first issue of Cuspidor.
