Web Design

Web Design courses teach students how to design web sites by introducing them to and refining their knowledge of site planning, page layout, graphic design, and the use of markup languages-such as Extensible Hypertext Markup, JavaScript, Dynamic HTML, and Document Object Model - to develop and maintain a web page. These courses may also cover security and privacy issues, copyright infringement, trademarks, and other legal issues relating to the use of the Internet. Advanced topics may include the use of forms and scripts for database access, transfer methods, and networking fundamentals.

Advanced Art – Principles of Illustration

Principles of Illustration explores a variety of media, tools, and techniques to visually communicate ideas. Graphic Design 1 provides a basic understanding of the graphic design process. Topics include analyzing the design elements and principles, exploring industry tools, software, and equipment, and learning composition techniques to develop a quality product.

Photo Imaging teaches the technical skills needed to produce quality images for use in a variety of applications. Topics include use of equipment, software, and technical and creative aspects of capturing, editing, and presenting images including the use of artificial intelligence. The course integrates hands-on activities, critical thinking, problem-solving skills to develop students into proficient and imaginative photographers.

Web and Digital Workplace Experience (Web and Digital Communications)

Prerequisites: Web Design and 1 additional credit with pathway.
The Web & Design Workplace Experience course provides students work experiences in the fields related to web and digital interface design. Experience can be an internship, apprenticeship, or simulated work experience where students navigate the complexities of web and digital interface design. Students will develop skills to test layouts, interfaces, functionality, and navigation menus to ensure compatibility and usability across browsers and devices, as well as design and develop graphics, websites, and software. Goals are typically set cooperatively by student, teacher, and work site supervisor. These courses may include classroom activities as well, involving further study of the field or discussion regarding experiences that students encounter in the workplace.

Yearbook

Prerequisites: Instructor approval and/or application Students learn and apply skills in business, layout design, graphic design, photography, and teamwork. Students will work in groups based on their academic responsibility, leadership, creative thinking skills and potential to work with others to complete the yearbook. While completing the Yearbook, students will explore the role media and the communications industry has in society, the development of technical skills related to journalistic writing and interviewing, as well as understand the ethical and legal issues related to the field. Class size is limited.
