The text, lectures, videos, handouts and hands-on activities will be used to provide information. Units covered include: Health and Wellness, Nutrition Principles, Mental and Emotional Health, Managing Stress, Alcohol, Tobacco and Illegal Drugs, and Human Sexuality.Through a variety of activities, the physical education department hopes to develop certain recreational skills, improve fitness and provide opportunities for social and character development. Although most of the time will be spent in activity, students will be given skill tests, and some written assignments and tests. This course is designed in part to prepare students for admission to a university.CN1801f CN1802s Weight Lifting & Conditioning Duration: .5 or 1.0 creditsPrerequisites: Successful completion of Heath/ PE and/or grade of C or better in previous Advanced PE course or instructor permission.Weight Lifting & Conditioning is designed to enhance the student’s physical well-being by strengthening the muscular system while also providing aerobic and plyometric activities. Positive outcomes include better coordination, injury prevention, enhanced athletic and cardiovascular performance, and an increased capacity for daily movement patterns. Consistent weight training is also a positive energy release, which will build the individual’s confidence. Individual goal setting and personal discipline are a must. Lifetime Fitness and Games Duration: 0.5 or 1.0 creditPrerequisite: 10-12th grade following completion of P.E./Health.This class is for students wishing to learn life skills and play games. First semester units include flag football, volleyball, golf, frisbee golf, matball, and walking/running. Second semester units include pickleball, badminton, flag football, golf, frisbee golf, matball, and waling/running. Students will be graded on physical skills, written tests, and effort/cooperation.
