Drafting/Print Reading

Introductory level general courses, usually offered as a sequence of courses, introduce students to the technical craft of drawing illustrations to represent and/or analyze design specifications and then refine the skills necessary for this craft. Drafting—General courses use exercises from a variety of applications to provide students with the knowledge and experience to develop the ability to perform freehand sketching, lettering, geometric construction, and multi-view projections and to produce various types of drawings (working, detail, assembly, schematic, perspective, and so on). Computer-aided drafting (CAD) systems (if available) are typically introduced and used to fulfill course objectives.

Woodworking Principles (Cabinetmaking I)

A comprehensive technical level course designed to instruct students in the basic knowledge and skills required for cabinetmaking and furniture design.

Construction Technology (available on rotation)

Prerequisites: 11th grade Intro to Skilled Trades
Students will have some classroom time, but most is hands on. Students will learn by doing.
Residential wiring will be taught, following the National Electric Code. Each student will correctly and safely wire and test the same basic circuits that are used in homes today. In the Concrete section, students will learn the material and forms needed, then apply that to the scale model bridge competition, where each student will design, make, and test (to destruction) to determine the weight that the structure will hold. Framing section covers conventional frame construction as used in residential construction.

An advanced application-level course designed to provide students with experience in constructing projects using advanced materials and methods of production and fabrication.

Prerequisites: Grade 12 at least 2 credits in pathways
An advanced application-level course that offers students an opportunity to apply knowledge and skills in an actual workplace setting, outside of the school setting, that explores all aspects of the selected industry, builds relationships with industry professionals, and creates a seamless transition from secondary to post-secondary pursuits and job satisfaction. Students should have completed other pathway courses at the technical and application level prior to this course.
