This session will focus on how to use the parts of a balanced assessment system to support both teaching and learning. Participants will explore the purpose and role of formative, interim, and summative assessments and how each can be used to make informed instructional decisions that improve student outcomes. Emphasis will be placed on using assessment not simply to measure learning, but to guide instruction, provide meaningful feedback, and empower students as learners.

Educators will examine practical strategies for embedding ongoing assessment into daily instruction through observation, questioning, academic discussions, student discourse, and purposeful tasks. Participants will also explore how to align assessments with learning intentions and success criteria to ensure students clearly understand what they are learning and how they can demonstrate success.

Throughout the session, teachers will engage with examples, tools, and resources that can be implemented immediately in the classroom. Time will also be provided for reflection and collaborative planning to help educators create a more balanced, responsive, and student-centered approach to assessment.
