The Spartans saw an 8-game winning streak snapped against the Wildcats in a 51-37 loss, seeing the Spartans drop back-to-back games for the first time this season.
In the boys game, Hayden’s hot shooting first quarter was a difference leading 25-7 after eight minutes of play. The Spartans outscored Hayden 10-7 in the second but trailed 32-17 at halftime. Emporia High pulled within eight midway through the third quarter, but it was the closest it got the rest of the way despite outscoring Hayden, 20-19 in the second half. Harry Trelc led Emporia High with 11 points. Emporia High coach Lee Baldwin gave credit to Hayden for the fast start.
