Great Bend won the boys game, 56-49. Emporia High led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter and used a 17-9 second quarter for a 31-22 halftime advantage.
Emporia High led by as many as 11 in the first half and held a 39-29 lead in the third quarter before Great Bend cut it to 39-36 after the period concluded.
Both teams went back and forth in the first half of the final quarter with Emporia High leading 49-46 with 3:16 remaining after Kobe Franklin hit a pair of free throws.
Great Bend finished the game on a 10-0 run to end the game. Franklin led Emporia High with a career-high 19 points, while Rylan Crowell had a career-high 17.
Emporia High coach Lee Baldwin said the Spartans couldn’t get a stop down the stretch. Emporia High heads into the holiday break with a 3-2 record.
