Graduation day of your senior year may feel like a distant event, but why not prepare yourself for life after high school TODAY? College and career exploration is not a "one size fits all" process, and you may change your mind a few times along the way.
You may have 1 of 3 different feelings when it comes to college and career exploration:
1) you may be SURE of what your plan is after high school, or
2) you may have NO CLUE what you would like to do after you finish high school, or
3) you may feel like you have TOO MANY options or ideas about what you would like to do and you don't know where to start!
If you haven't decided on the career that's right for you- take a deep breath! You will get be empowered to explore colleges and careers during your time at BSHS. The exciting world of college and career planning begins with self-discovery and exploration!
Self- Discovery: First you must learn about yourself including your skills and your interests. What are you passionate about? What qualities do you have that you can weave into a career?
Exploration: Finding out more about careers can inform you on what a career is all about. Things you will want to know include: what education or certification may be required, what skills are required, what is the salary? If college is required, what types of courses are required and can you take any credits in high school to help you?
Working alongside professionals is another way students can explore different experiences and unique career pathways.

College and career exploration is built into your high school experience! The Xello student portal provides opportunities to discover self-interests, skills, and career options.
Adding career-related courses to your Individual Plan of Study (IPS) helps to provide concrete experiences within a career to "try it on," and see whether or not it feels like a good fit! You may be feeling lost, but remember IPS is a road map to help you find your way!
The earlier you start participating in your own exploration, the earlier you are on track towards your destination or the faster you are getting roadblocks and detours out of the way for the careers that don't fit! What are you waiting for?
