Kansas Careers, Fields, Clusters, and Pathways - Kansas State Department of Education
As students prepare for life beyond high school, it is important that students set goals and create a road map for success before leaving high school. This road map, or individual plan of study, includes a flexible career focus and an education plan that is clearly-defined and relevant to assure a successful transition to post secondary education and/or the workforce.
The foundational elements of the individual plan of study are:
the career interests identified by the student through a career interest survey or assessment
graduation requirements
approved coursework for the student's educational and career goals
developmentally-appropriate, work-based learning experiences.
The Kansas State Department of Education requires each IPS to have 4 elements:
A graduated series of strength finders and career interest inventories to help students identify preference toward career clusters.
8th through 12th-grade course builder function with course selections based on career interests.
A general post secondary plan (workforce, military, certification program, two-year college, four-year college).
A portable electronic portfolio.
