A growing cognate word list, especially in science, can be very helpful to students when thinking about and explaining scientific concepts. A growing cognate wall ties back into the Greek/Latin root word study since students can see all the languages that make use of the same root words. 

In the same way it is helpful for students to keep a growing list of cognates, it is beneficial for students to have access to word walls when words differ greatly.  For example, a word wall may have the word in English, Spanish, Spanglish, and may include a photo.
