These are the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Each line describes what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time they take the STAAR assessment. I have bolded the skill portion of each student expectation to highlight what students must demonstrate.
Before reading the question: Sometimes it’s easier to find the wrong answers than the right ones. When you read an answer choice that you’re sure is wrong, cross it out. You’ll be left with fewer options to choose from. When you have fewer choices, the chance of you picking the right answer goes up. To use the process of elimination, start by reading each answer choice carefully. Look for obvious wrong answers. These answers may be off-topic or may use key words or ideas incorrectly. Sometimes, wrong choices have the steps of a process in the wrong order. Eliminate anything you are sure is wrong. Then decide between the answers left.
C- Chemical ~ form of energy stored in chemical bonds (batteries and food)
M- Mechanical ~ energy of motion, moving parts (think of simple machines)
E- Electrical ~ form of energy that can move through wires
L- Light ~ a form of energy we can see
T- Thermal ~ a form of energy measured by temperatures
S- Sound ~ a form of energy we can hear, travels in waves
Energy can change from one form to another. This is called a transformation of energy. Transformations of energy occur in plants, ovens, and people’s bodies.
Energy is transferred in multiple ways throughout your daily lives, think about the ways energy is transferred in these two examples.
Light -> Electrical -> Chemical -> Electrical -> Mechanical
