We want all UPHS students to BECOME:
Problem Solvers --who define problems, think critically, make decisions, and create solutions
Communicators --who read, speak, write, and listen to understand
Respectful & Responsible Citizens --who display academic integrity, contribute locally and globally, and are environmentally aware
Self-Motivated Individuals who set well-defined goals, manage time, and are life-long learners
As part of the Early College Initiative, UPHS provides students with an opportunity to prepare for college through rigorous academics, to participate in concurrent enrollment in college classes, and to earn a substantial number of college credits during the high school years.
UPHS will provide opportunities for students to succeed in a rigorous academic curriculum through intensive academic training in preparation for a college path, with an emphasis on academic English, math, science, writing across the curriculum, character development, leadership, community service and civic engagement.
Congratulations to the Science Olympiad teams who faced-off Saturday at TCOE’s Science Olympiad competition at Mission Oak High School in Tulare. UPHS went up against 15 other high school teams! UPHS placed 4th overall! We also had students earn many medals! We are very proud of these students and their accomplishments! Thank you, Mr. Thiessen and Mr. Peterson for coaching our two teams!
Congratulations to UPHS students Corina Feenstra, Nadia DeDad, Aden Arrambide, Mirian Velasquez, and Victoria Davila! These students have been selected to participate in the Congressional Academy at Fresno State this summer! The Congressional Academies are for 11th and 12th grade students of American history and civics. These students will participate in an orientation, mentor meetings, and a week long on-campus seminar at Fresno State (with students staying in dorms on campus for the week).
Congratulations UPHS senior Claire Toomey, who received a Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) "Good Citizen Award" and a $300 scholarship. Claire's essay in the national DAR scholarship program was also selected to advance to the state competition. Best of luck in the competition Claire and in your plans to attend COS next year!
UPHS Civics teacher, Arturo Figueroa, found out which projects won the 2020 Constitutional Rights Foundation Civic Action Project. Three UPHS students, Aubrey Liddi, Britney Santos, and Corina Feenstra took first place in the 2020 contest. Their project focused on safety on the College of the Sequoias Visalia campus.

Congratulations to Mock Trial Team members, Brooke Ramirez one of the artist finalists going to the Mock Trial state competition and to Tavii Garcia and Kari Pendegraft two courtroom journalists who are also going to the Mock Trial state competition on March 20. We are very proud of these students! Thank you, Mr. Rivera and Mr. Lange for coaching this team!
Congratulations to History Day Team members Mori Morsi and Mia Giannandrea who competed in the local History Day competition in February. Mia’s project, WASP Breaking Gender Barriers in the Military, made it to the History Day state level competition. We are very proud of these students and their accomplishments! Thank you, Mr. Figueroa for coaching this team!
Congratulations UPHS senior Zebadiah Facundo, who received the High School Big of the Year from the organization Big Brothers Big Sisters. Ms. Amanda Phelps, the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program Advisor, said this about Zebadiah, “Zebadiah is overall a remarkable individual, and I feel he would be a perfect demonstration of our HSB Program and what it is to be Big of the Year. He is a genuine role model for his Little and has been a great example. He has taught his Little to do his best despite his circumstances and tells him weekly before leaving program to “Keep your head up! Every experience we go through makes us who we are.”
University Preparatory High School is a WASC-accredited California high school.
