Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) has taken a proactive role in addressing climate change and environmental sustainability through strategic collaborations with non-governmental organizations (NGOs). One key partnership is with the Tropical Natural Institute Foundation, where the focus is on enhancing human resources, fostering scientific research, and developing innovations in the Forestry Social Ecosystem. This collaboration aims to promote sustainable management of forest ecosystems while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
In addition to this, USK's Environmental Research Center has joined forces with the Regional Fire Management Resource Center – Southeast Asia (RFMRC-SEA) to support the conservation of forested areas and peatlands, which are crucial for maintaining biodiversity and mitigating climate impacts. These partnerships are formalized through agreements, such as the Memorandum of Agreement with the Tropical Natural Institute Foundation, which underscores USK's dedication to preserving natural resources and contributing to global climate adaptation efforts.
Through these initiatives, USK not only strengthens its research and educational capacities but also plays a vital role in promoting sustainable environmental practices in collaboration with local and regional organizations. This comprehensive approach reflects the university's deep commitment to environmental stewardship and climate resilience.
