Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) plays a pivotal role in supporting local and regional governments in addressing climate change-related risks. By providing crucial assistance in early warning processes and monitoring systems during potential climate disasters, USK ensures proactive risk management. Through its key institutions, TDMRC and PRPIA, USK has been instrumental in disseminating vital information to communities and local institutions about climate change, disaster risk reduction, and mitigation strategies. Particular focus has been given to addressing flood risks and challenges in the agricultural sector, areas that are essential for the region’s sustainability and community livelihood. These actions highlight USK’s unwavering commitment to supporting the government in creating effective disaster response and long-term adaptation strategies.
After the flood and flash flood disaster that killed 2 people in Southeast Aceh Regency (Agara), the Disaster Mitigation Center (TDMRC) of Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) conducted a survey to assess the causes of flash floods and overflows in Southeast Aceh Regency.
The survey was conducted on December 3-6, 2023, involving researchers from various divisions at TDMRC USK, including the Hydrometeorological Disaster Research Division, Disaster Risk Management Division, Disaster Education Division, and Human Security Division.
South Aceh – The Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) held another Focus Group Discussion (FGD) as a follow-up to the development of the Disaster Risk Assessment (KRB) for South Aceh, which began in August 2022. The event took place on Friday, December 30, 2022, in the hall of the South Aceh Regent's office. Representing the Regent of South Aceh, the Assistant for Economic and Development Affairs of the Regional Secretariat of South Aceh, Drs. H. T. Darisman, expressed in his speech that the KRB study is highly beneficial for the future development of South Aceh.
Darisman stated that the KRB document can serve as a guide in formulating the Regional Spatial Planning (RTRW) from a disaster risk reduction perspective. “Thank you to everyone involved, especially TDMRC-USK and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), for their assistance in developing and creating the flood risk map for KRB,” he said in a written statement received by Dialeksis.com on Sunday, January 1, 2023.
