Eagle Nation Families,

Happy Spring Break! Our students and staff were VERY ready for this break. IAR testing and hard work on our courses have really taken it out of us! A few students need to make up tests after the break, but overall, our students were present and engaged.

In early April, our 8th-grade students will take the Illinois Science Assessment, and starting April 20th, our students will take their final round of STAR testing for the year. We have been working very hard to make gains in our literacy skills. We are so proud of the work they have put in!

As we return for the final stretch of the year, please work hard to partner with the school to ensure students are at school EVERY DAY! They all count, and attendance matters. Enjoy your break!

Morning Reminders

Please do not send your students on the bus, or drop them off at Evans with Starbucks, Energy Drinks, or other outside beverages. Students may carry water bottles and eat breakfast/lunch in the cafe, but not elsewhere in the building. There should be no outside food or drinks when you are dropping them off at school. Thank you!

Dress Code Review

Families - It is EXTREMELY important you review the dress code as it is stated in our handbook. We are seeing an increase in showing mid-sections, hoods up and students wearing their coats throughout the day.

As stated in our Welcome Back News:

Please help your student understand what is considered school-appropriate clothing - staff does not want to address dress code issues with students; it is uncomfortable for all involved. The Unit 5 Handbook outlines specific terms of what students cannot wear to school; please review:

Student dress (including accessories) may not advertise, promote, or picture alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, violent behavior, or other inappropriate images.
Student dress (including accessories) may not display lewd, vulgar, obscene, or offensive language or symbols, including gang symbols.
Coats and sunglasses may not be worn in the building during the school day.
No head coverings are allowed that obscure the view of the student's face. (No sweatshirt hoods are to be worn up at Evans).
Hairstyles, dresses, and accessories (scarfs/headbands) that pose a safety hazard are not permitted in the shop, laboratories, or during physical education.
Metal studs, chains longer than jewelry, and any other objects that may be used as weapons or that may be hazardous to persons or property are specifically prohibited.
Clothing which fails to adequately cover the body, or which is torn or altered in an explicit or suggestive manner, will not be permitted. Shirts, blouses and tops which are not tucked in must be long enough to cover the midsection when the student is in a standing or sitting position (this is a new addition). Pants or shorts must be worn at the waist.
Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times. Slippers and shoes with wheels are prohibited.
If there is any doubt about dress and appearance, the building administration will make the final decision.
A student whose dress causes a substantial disruption to the orderly process of school functions or endangers the health or safety of the student, other students, staff, or others may be subject to discipline.

When we return from Spring Break please help your students remember to wear their Student ID to school with them. There are many reasons for wearing their ID, including scanning on and off the bus, scanning into spaces in Evans AND scanning their ID to purchase items in the cafeteria. Students should wear them and they should be visible at all times! If a student does lose their ID they will receive the first replacement for free and then $3 for each replacement after. Please help us with this important safety plan.

Student Contact/Conflict Form

With nearly 800 students in Eagle Nation, there are many times when there might be student conflict or students seeing behaviors they feel need to report to an adult. Please encourage students to use the Eagle Eyes Incident Report Form on our website's front page. This form will alert the administration/student support team, and we will direct the students to the best-suited resource to resolve their conflict.
