Dear Evans Eagles 8th Grade Families,
Believe it or not, your 8th-grade students' time at Evans Junior High is starting to come to a close. As we look ahead to high school, I want to remind you of the health requirements that must be met for your student to attend on the first day of high school.
As a reminder, Unit 5 has a first-day exclusion policy, which means your students' physical and immunization records must be turned in prior to the first day of school for them to attend. The Illinois State Board of Education requires that all 9th-grade students have a current physical and immunization record on file. A compliant physical is a physical exam completed on or after (8/21/25).
If your student already has a current physical on file at Evans, this physical will be sent to their high school, along with their immunization records and additional health paperwork in their school health file. If you are unsure if your student has a current physical on file in the health office, please feel free to contact me via email to check. When you complete the requirements this summer, please plan to turn them in to the high school your student will be attending by August 12, 2026.
(Please note: If an IESA/IHSA sports physical has been the only recent physical turned in, this does NOT meet the requirements for a current 9th-grade physical. A new physical must be completed on a State of Illinois Certificate of Child Health Examination Form)
A dental exam is also required in 9th grade, but that does not have to be turned in until April 2027.
Thank you,
Joely McCaw, MSN, RN, PEL-CSN

Have you noticed an Evans staff member going above and beyond? Do you want to acknowledge how hard someone works every day? Was there a special occasion or event that you feel needs to be recognized? Use our Elevate & Celebrate Form to recognize Evans Staff members who go above and beyond to help students and families!
As the weather warms up, students will be going outside for PE and possible Team activities, including field trips. This is just a reminder to have students make it part of their morning routine to put on sunscreen before coming to school. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends that children wear sunscreen with a sun protection factor of 30 or higher. Always use sunscreens that say “broad spectrum,” which protects against ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B rays. Do not use a sunscreen with para-aminobenzoic acid or oxybenzone in children because there is a risk of skin allergies and other skin effects. Otherwise, the best sunscreen is one that students will use every time they are in the sun.

With nearly 800 students in Eagle Nation, there are many times when there might be student conflict or students seeing behaviors they feel need to report to an adult. Please encourage students to use the Eagle Eyes Incident Report Form on our website's front page. This form will alert the administration/student support team, and we will direct the students to the best-suited resource to resolve their conflict.
