Having a healthy and strong body and mind are important - knowing who you are, taking care of your mental health, and being confident in your own skin are all included. What do you do to take care of our body and mind? While we are all different and unique, we are all also just human beings, each doing our best to make sense of the world and add something positive to it.
Twenty minutes of reading. Sixty minutes of exercise. Eight to ten hours of sleep. Less than two hours of screen time. These are the general daily recommendations for a healthy middle schooler.
Keep a log for the week. Track how much time you spend reading, exercising, sleeping, and on a device.
Predict how many minutes you spend on each activity.
At the end of the week, review your daily minutes.
Do you meet the recommendations? What adjustments could you make?
Challenge the members of your family to keep a log of their own minutes and make their own predictions.

Mental Health encompasses emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Caring for your mental health is just as important as caring for the health of your body. One way to care for your mental health is to know what helps you feel better when you are sad or stressed.

At both Dartmouth and Union middle schools, there are trusted adults and counselors that you could reach out if you'd like additional support. Once school starts, be sure to look out for their Google Forms to request an appointment.
Identify a trusted adult that you could go to for support, if you needed to. Talk to them about healthy ways that they navigate their feelings and/or deal with stress.
