The project's experiments run in parallel on two fronts: coated plates immersed at sea, whose biofouling communities are followed and measured, and the electronics that watch them. Each line below has its own page, with the setup, the protocol and the data collected; the platforms these experiments depend on are described under Devices.
Evaluation of Biofouling Selectivity on Different Coating Formulations
Immersion campaigns in which plates carrying different coating formulations are exposed side by side and their communities followed over months. Two campaigns have pages of their own: the immersion of acrylic plates with resin-based coatings, and the colonization dynamics of marine biofouling communities on conductive graphite substrates.
Monitoring and Signaling Buoys
The series measured by the buoys in operation, buoy by buoy. The platforms themselves — hardware, firmware and radio links — are described under Devices.
Development of Bioelectrochemical Generators
Bench and field work on the generators: assemblies, materials and the electrical parameters they produce over the life of a biofouling community.
Development of Functional Coating Formulations
Formulation and testing of the coatings that go on the plates, from their additives to the finished paints and how they are applied.
Live dashboards fed by the project's data loggers, including the twin-aquarium setup and generator 4.
