If either case of exceeding 80 kilowatts (kW) of power draw, or exceeding the voltage ceiling of 600V DC occurs continuously for even a tenth of a second, or over a moving average of half of a second, your team will be flagged for a violation.
For context, there was a year where MIT's racecar performed very well in the dynamic events, but was disqualified from the endurance event due to a power violation. They had mounted an Energy Meter of their own design to the car in addition to the official Formula SAE Energy Meter, and used that data to optimize their power output throughout the race. For a few tenths of a second, their output was over the 80 kWh ceiling, and their car was disqualified.
In future years, they resolved this by implementing a power limiter to ensure that the power consumption of the vehicle is reliably under the limit.
EV.3.4.2 Missing Energy Meter data due to the team’s fault, tampering, or attempting to tamper with the Energy Meter will be treated as a Violation.
The integrity of our team is far more important than the possibility of scoring higher as a result of cheating the system. This applies to all rules which talk about tampering with data logging components.
Information about how the Energy Meter violations are treated is available in the next section, EV.3.5.

D.13.2.6 For Electric Vehicles (EV):
a. Energy Meter data must be downloaded to measure energy used and check for Violations EV.3.3
b. Penalties will be applied per EV.3.5 and/or D.13.3.4
Energy Meter values are logged and monitored by inspectors.
D.13.3 Efficiency Eligibility

D.13.3.4 Cannot Measure Fuel/Energy Used The vehicle will receive zero points
In the Efficiency Event, the vehicle will not receive any points if there is no method to measure energy output (inclusive of tampering).
EV.3.4.3 Tampering, or attempting to tamper with the Energy Meter or its data may result in Disqualification (DQ)
Again, the integrity of our team is far more important than the possibility of scoring higher as a result of cheating the system.
Information about how the Energy Meter violations are treated is available in the next section, EV.3.5.

IN.15.3.2 During Dynamic Events
a. Issues found during Reinspection will void Inspection Approval
b. Penalties may be applied to the Dynamic Events the vehicle has competed in
Applied penalties may include additional time added to event(s), loss of one or more fastest runs, up to DQ, subject to official discretion.
If disqualified, our team may retrospectively fail technical inspection, or our best runs could potentially be voided.
