Practicing mindfulness can help reduce stress and increase our self-compassion and empathy toward others.

Mindfulness is an innate capacity that we all have to be present and aware of our momentary experiences and to choose how to best respond in the moment.

Take Care of Each Other

Gratitude and mindfulness strengthen and support each other. Gratitude is also one of the most accessible positive emotions, and its effects can strengthen friendships and intimate relationships. One 2010 study found that mindfully expressing gratitude toward a partner can strengthen the relationship, and this positive boost is felt by both parties—the one who expresses gratitude and the one who receives it. Remembering to mindfully say “thank you” when a friend listens or your partner brings you a cup of coffee can set off an upward spiral of trust and connection.
