Teaching with Writing Workshop:

Scaffolding Capstone Writing Experiences for Majors

Thursday, February 22, 2024

1:00–2:30 pm

101 Walter Library (East Bank)

REGISTRATION CLOSED

Capstone writing experiences are unique in that they presume that students will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they have developed in their majors, yet their design and execution are unlike much of the written work they have done in their courses. The greater independence in topic selection and project execution can challenge even the most prepared students.

This 90-minute workshop will address some strategies for scaffolding capstone writing projects, including creating project milestones, incorporating early feedback, and focusing or narrowing from broad ideas to executable projects. Faculty and instructors are encouraged to bring their current capstone assignments and resources, but any instructor interested in capstone experiences is encouraged to attend.

Facilitator: Dan Emery (Assistant Director, Writing Across the Curriculum)

Audience: Faculty, instructors, and graduate students
Format: On-campus workshop, remote attendance will not be offered
