Teaching with Writing Workshop:

Back to the Future: Writing to Learn in the Age of AI

Tuesday, March 26, 2024

Noon–1:00 pm

101 Walter Library (TC-East Bank)

Box lunches will be provided for registered attendees.

REGISTRATION CLOSED.

Writing-to-learn (WTL) activities—brief and informal writing activities that provide students with opportunities to think through key concepts and practice core learning objectives—have been an effective teaching strategy for several decades. With the proliferation of generative AI tools and the many benefits and challenges they present, it is worth reconsidering what roles WTL can play in the classroom. What WTL prompts might thwart AI, when necessary, and what WTL prompts might integrate AI?

In this workshop, we’ll look back to examples of effective WTL activities, and we’ll look ahead to new uses for WTL. Participants will have opportunities to identify timely places to integrate WTL into their courses with the goal of designing at least one WTL activity.

Audience: Faculty, instructors, and graduate students
Format: On-campus workshop

*Our guest presenters are candidates for a position as Director of Writing Across the Curriculum. We encourage members of the University community to attend all three sessions. For questions about these guest workshops or other TWW events and programming, please email wac@umn.edu.
