Paradise Plants

Dr. John W. Moore, a professor of Botany at the University of Minnesota between the 1930s-1960s was well known for his plant identification. In fact, he was a main resource for the University of Minnesota's Herbarium, who provided the service of identifying plants for locals. These requests would come in through detailed correspondence or with samples of the plant's leaves or flowers. Moore would then go on to identify the plant to the best of his knowledge, along with care instructions or a guide on how to dispose of it. In many cases, Moore would draw out illustrations of these plants to use as future resources.

For a taste of these plant illustrations, enjoy the following sketches drawn by Moore of plants found on the island of Raiatea, where he studied as graduate student during the 1920s.
