Students can use the instructions on the OneStop Register for a Class website. This includes all the steps to register for courses and provides screenshots to visualize what it should look like.
Each semester has drop/add/cancel deadlines that students must be aware of. Changing registration after these deadlines may require additional permission or may have additional impacts on student records, including financial aid. Students can find the deadlines on the OneStop Drop/add deadlines website.
*Note, students are required to register for credits every fall and spring semester from matriculation to graduation*
Depending on the courses students are taking they may need to utilize forms to request adjustments to their registration. Here you'll find forms for adding Law School and MBA courses as well as adding independent studies and resolving class time conflicts.
Given the overlapping interests between Humphrey courses and Law courses, some Humphrey students choose to take courses in the law school. To find a list of courses that are open to graduate students outside the law school as well as the form to request registration for these courses, please visit the Courses, Registration & Grading Law School Website.
Given the overlapping interests between Humphrey courses and Business courses, some Humphrey students choose to take courses through the MBA program at Carlson School of Management. To find out more information about MBA coursework and the link to the petition form that is required to take MBA courses, students should visit the MBA Course Enrollment Petition page on the Carlson School of Management Website.
Students are not allowed to register for courses that overlap in time or do not provide adequate travel separation between meeting times without permission of the instructors teaching these courses. If students are considering overlapping courses, students must communicate with instructors to ensure that this would be possible/advisable and then must fill out the Class Time Conflict form.
Coming Soon. If you have questions about this, please reach out to your program coordinator.
Due to unforseen circumstances there are times when students may need to request a change to their registration in ways that are outside of the current policy. In order to do that students must submit a Graduate Registration Exception Request and upload necessary documentation in order to get their request reviewed. Common petitions include:
adding a course after the deadline
withdrawing from a course after the deadline
swapping a class section or course after the deadline
changing the grading basis after the deadline
changing credits for a variable credit course after the deadline
registering for more than 18 credits in a term
adding a new course and reducing credits for a variable credit course
withdrawing from a course and increasing the credits of a variable credit course.
Prior to submitting the Registration Exception Request, students should reach out to Humphrey School Career and Student Success to discuss the situation.
GRAD 999 is a zero-credit/zero-tuition registration course that is intended for graduate students who have completed all coursework but must maintain enrollment to remain an active student. Students must reach out to their program coordinator to discuss whether GRAD 999 is the best option for them. More information about this specific type of registration can be found on the OneStop website.
International students have registration requirements that are dependent on their visa type. These include minimum credits registered per semester as well as limitations on the number of courses that can be fully online. Students should visit the ISSS website for more information about the registration requirements specific to their visa type.
