Handshake is the go-to source for all things career that you will throughout the career exploration and recruiting processes. Start your program off with confidence by learning where to find key information and resources on the site.

On the page that follows, click on “Student & Alumni Login.”
Click on the “University of Minnesota Student & Alumni Login” button.

We strongly recommend you bookmark the login in page for easy access in the future.
To maximize your profile, we recommend you consider:
Complete the job interests section of your profile, including job type, location, and job role. Recruiters are 5x as likely to reach out to you if your profile is complete. Additionally, when you fill in your interests, Handshake will send you better and more relevant job recommendations.
Make your profile public so you show up in employer searches.
To use Handshake to apply for opportunities (jobs/internships/volunteer positions) or to sign up for on-campus interviews, you will first need to upload a copy of your resume. Note: Before you do this, make sure you have had your resume reviewed and approved by a CBCC coach.
Click on your name in the upper right-hand corner of the screen
Choose the “Documents” option from the drop-down menu
Follow the instructions on the next screen to upload your resume as a PDF file
In order for recruiters to see you as a candidate AND to be included in resume books, you need to make your resume BOTH visible and public:
Found under My Documents, VISIBLE means you are setting a specific resume to be your default resume. Every time you upload a new version of your resume, you want to make sure you are making that new file visible.
Found under Settings, PUBLIC means that the CBCC and recruiters can see your resume. If you do not make your resume public, the BD team can't pull your resume into a resume book.
Once you have at least one document—in this case, your resume—uploaded to your Handshake profile, clicking on the “Documents” submenu under your name will take you to a “Documents” page, where you can manage all of your document uploads: resumes, cover letters, transcripts, and others. You can then add or delete documents as necessary.
Once you’ve completed your profile (although it’s always a work in progress!) and uploaded your resume, you’ll be able to take advantage of the many other tools Handshake has to offer. See below for the three most common search functions (searching for jobs, OCR opportunities and Career Events)
To best leverage the job and internship search features, consider:
Review the Search and Apply Video Tutorial to learn how to best use and filter your search and favorite positions.
TIP: The best way for students to search for remote opportunities is to use the keyword search box and type in the word "remote".
Simply click on the “Jobs” tab at the top of the Handshake page and then wait for all the listings to load. You can then use handy search boxes and filters to refine (for example, by geography or keyword) what’s presented to you. You can even save these customized searches so that you don’t have to set up filters every time you’re on Handshake.
On-Campus Recruitment (OCR) is a structured process where large organizations come to campus to recruit and interview for roles months before a candidate will start the actual position. These companies typically work with roughly 5-10 core schools that they visit to recruit Graduate level talent. The CBCC works with campus recruiters, alumni, and hiring managers to schedule these on campus interviews for roles that can be applied to in Handshake under the "Interviews" section.
For MBA students, full-time seeking candidates will see companies come to campus and conduct interviews in late September and October. Internship seeking candidates will see companies come to campus in late January and February to conduct interviews.
For MHRIR students, both full-time and internship seeking candidates will see the majority of opportunities happen in the Fall semester (late September through October). Some companies will come to campus in the Spring semester, but it’s only a handful.
For MSBA students, full-time positions will begin appearing in September and October with the MBA cycle and will continue throughout the school year however, March and April are when the majority of MSBA opportunities appear.
