OPTIONAL
If you are unclear about your career targets (e.g. functions, industries), you are encouraged to utilize the career exploration resources, including watching the Career Exploration Workshop to help narrow down career targets before the live Greenlight sessions
Individuals attending Greenlight build on their learning by completing the following post-work:
Schedule resume review by a CBCC coach - After attending Greenlight and updating your resume into the 1-page Carlson format (or 2 page for mid-career professionals), it must be reviewed by a CBCC coach. To make an appointment with a coach, go to APlus, follow the prompts and look for a date/time that is most convenient for you. Appointments are available via Zoom, phone or face-to-face
Behavioral interview practice session - When you attend Greenlight, behavioral practice is included in the workshop. However, students always benefit from more practice. Register in Handshake under Events>Small Groups for a interview practice session with a trained peer coach
Watch these videos (strong encouraged but not mandatory):
Upon completion of these 3 requirements, you will get the "greenlight" to launch a job search and/or participate in Carlson recruitment activities (occurs in the fall for MBAs and HRIR, spring/summer for Business Analytics)
Recommend work for "Greenlighters" exploring multiple career options. While the following activities can be helpful to complete before the synchronous Greenlight workshops to help clarify career targets, career exploration activities can be completed afterwards. The key is to clarify career targets before applying to roles to avoid functions, companies and industries that aren't aligned with your interests, values, skills, strengths, etc.
Watch the career exploration webinar (46 minutes)
Meet with a CBCC coach - Schedule a coaching session through APLUS to discuss your past experience, current skills, and future goals. Formulate with the coach an overall exploration strategy and actionable steps curated to your career path
Watch the conducting career research video (15 minutes)
Take a career assessment - CareerLeader is a career inventory that assesses your interests, motivations and skills to identify fitting functional business roles. Review additional career assessments featured on the CBCC site. Email the CBCC to request access to certain career assessments as noted on the assessment page or schedule a coaching appointment through Handshake to discuss with a coach which assessments fit your needs
Learn about common functional roles - Read through online resources, including Hedgehog Project, and Bureau of Labor Statistics to learn about functional areas that MBA/MS students frequently pursue. Below are links to CBCC documents about functional areas:
