Academic Calendar

The School of Nursing follows the University of Minnesota academic calendar for fall and spring semester and observes all closures and breaks. The summer semester term dates are highly varied from department to department. School of Nursing courses, those with the NURS designator, will begin the day after Memorial Day and be 10 weeks in length.

On Campus Requirements

All DNP students are required to come to campus for a minimum of a four-day session each semester. During the four day session, all courses will meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. On Thursday of that week, all DNP students will participate in a day of enhanced programming that will align with the Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice and provide an opportunity to build relationships and engagement among students and faculty. We are calling that day Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Enhancement and Enrichment programming (DEEP). The objectives of DEEP include:

  1. To foster learning and leadership as a member of the interprofessional healthcare team
  2. To develop successful strategies for transitioning to the advanced nursing practice role
  3. To enhance students' scholarly capabilities and success
  4. To set the foundation for the legacy and generativity each student will carry forward post-graduation
  5. To foster engagement with our community, mentors, faculty and preceptors
  6. To support student wellbeing and resilience with specific actions and support
