My name is Ainur Jumagaliyeva, and I am pursuing my PhD in Comparative and International Development Education at the University of Minnesota. My research explores internationalization in higher education with a focus on gender, equity, and the experiences of student-parents navigating academic life.
I am particularly interested in how institutions can create more inclusive environments that recognize and support the multiple identities of students, especially those balancing family responsibilities with their studies. I was born and raised in Kazakhstan and began my career in student affairs. This experience sparked my interest in higher education systems and motivated me to pursue research that bridges theory and practice to address issues of access, belonging, and epistemic justice for underrepresented students.
Beyond academia, I am a proud mother of three daughters who inspire me every day and shape my understanding of education, care, and equity. I am passionate about music (Backstreet Boys will always be my favorite!) and enjoy watching Grey’s Anatomy. When I have the chance, I enjoy sightseeing and exploring new places, always seeking out opportunities to learn from different cultures and perspectives.
