At the beginning of the COVID-19 shutdowns, we were all told to take this as an opportunity to focus on ourselves. But for many, the stress and emotional toll that came with the quarantine were simply too overwhelming to relax in a conventional manner. Taking time for yourself doesn’t have to mean forced relaxation in a dark room. It could be as simple as calling a friend to catch up on your favorite show, writing outside in a journal, or playing with your neighbor’s dog.
My piece, Méditations, was inspired by the kindness and community that I saw and experienced throughout this pandemic. It’s meant to represent a different kind of meditation... the kind that is found in everyday activities. This piece is written 4 parts, with a violin on each of the top three parts and piano on the bass line. I play all of the parts in this recording. Méditations is a call for inner peace during times when the external environment is anything but.

My name is Jerusha Taylor, and I am an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan studying violin performance with Fabiola Kim. I’ve been playing the violin since I was 18 months old, and a couple years later I started Scottish Highland Dance and piano. I enjoy learning about health and wellness, and I hope to one day go back to school for my nursing degree.
