Facts Aren't Enough

Building Trust and Understanding

Hosted by Lily Ellis, doctoral fellow at Eastern Michigan University

This workshop focuses on navigating controversial topics without shutting conversations down, using several techniques from the Know Us Project. Originally crafted for the LGBT+ community, Know Us Project conversations are intended to influence public opinion one conversation at a time. This workshop invites scientists to use empathy and validation to relate with non-scientists in understanding scientific misconceptions, and challenges the scientists to validate the emotions underlying the misconception in order to connect with different viewpoints.
