Invisible Wounds

Abstract

My speech is aimed at students who feel like they are always the odd one out. This speech will be in a poetic format, this speech will cover topics of microaggressions and feeling oppressed based on ethnicity which includes minority groups. Many of us, including myself have felt intimidated by the people who think they “belong” in this country whereas we have felt like we don’t even though we are citizens. The death stares any time you walk into a room full of people who don’t have the same skin color as you or get condescending questions like “Where are you really from.” These types of attitudes can hurt the feelings of people who feel misunderstood. With my project, I want to shed light on these issues and start a conversation about how people are more aware and considerate on this campus.
