Biography & Personal Statement
Yetunde (yeye) Aliu is a freshman from the Washington metropolitan area studying Philosophy at the University of Maryland. Her interests include reading, writing poetry, listening to music, working out, and traveling. Her prospective research aims to examine how writing poetry is used in art form and how poetry is used to tell a story in an artistic way using words. Inspired by poets like Walt Whitman, Sylvia Plath, and Amanda Gorman. Yeye uses her influences to spark her talent in poetry. She uses her experiences with Teenage dilemma, trauma, and mental health to write what comes from her heart and put it in writing.
As a College Park Arts Scholar, Yeye intends to explore her research interests through her culminating Capstone project to be completed in her sophomore year. She is excited to take full advantage of the opportunity to learn about art careers from guest artists. She also looks forward to attending field trips to explore the arts within her new community of College Park, MD. As part of her university experience, she plans to become a lawyer and work for people who need help getting justice in the court of law. She is also a fan of history and how it has influenced our American society, she can also talk about a presidential debate with her love for politics and the decisions politicians take in the White House. She also wants to find out what role our brain takes to create art and what other perceives it. Her academic goals include developing a senior thesis that demonstrates mastery in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics and graduating prepared to enter the workforce.
