I went to the Elizabeth Gillies Q&A sponsored by SEE (Student Entertainment Events) and NextNow. Going to that event was interesting because I never thought I would ever meet Elizabeth Gillies in person. When I was little I used to watch her on Nickelodeon when she played the character Jade of vicTORIous. She is a very nice lady in person and sweet and funny. When the talk started she was asked a set of questions stemming down to her acting career, being on Broadway, singing, and her personal life. She is good friends with Ariana Grande and she told us funny stories about her and Ari. She also told us about her time on Victorious and her favorite lines from the show to her favorite episode. She was also a part of the voice cast for the Winx club and she said that she doesn’t remember that, which I thought was funny. This was a good event that was engaging, my favorite part of this event was the advice she gave us college students: that you don’t need 50 friends to feel seen and to let anyone go if that person made you second guess yourself and feel bad. I loved that it was a full house and it was just a big community of people that still adore and respect her today.
Event Logistics (10/06/24, Lincoln Theatre, Passion City Church)
( #music, #theater )
This was when they were doing praise and worship at Passion City Church. The words that they use in worship songs speak to me because of the metaphors that they use and how the lyrics speak to what we struggle on a daily basis. As an aspiring lawyer and someone who is into writing poetry herself; This worship session right here is very personal to me in many ways. I also loved how I was able to worship with my friends around me and have a sense of community, especially with people who I never met before. I think that my time in this event changed my perspective a lot. Whether you are a believer or not art is a universal and interchangeable thing. Before entering the theatre, I also noticed the art around me. at U Street in D.C., there are many art pictures on buildings representing the African American culture surrounded by U Street. There was also go-go music playing around the streets that gave me the vibe and the origin of where go-go music came from. I enjoyed every experience leading up to my going to church and for it was in the Lincoln Theater. Overall, My experience with passion was something that I wish others could experience as well.
