How Your Participation is Graded

Weekly Preparation and Participation/Attendance Grade

(10 points each day):  Examples of student participation.

• 10 (A+): Textbook always open during class (as appropriate to activity), volunteers frequently, works well with other students, very well-prepared for class. Contributes ideas and opinions, shows willingness to learn, speaks French at all times, is on time to class.

• 7.5 (C): Textbook open during part of the class, minimally prepared, speaks only when spoken to, sometimes contributes to group work. Sometimes focuses durng class, usually speaks English. Uses cell phone, laptop, tablet, etc. to text or to view non-class materials, arrives late.

• 0 (F): Textbook never open during class, unprepared, does not participate in individual or group work, distracts others, disruptive, more than 10 minutes late OR Absent with no documented excuse (see Attendance). 

DROP-IN HOURS: One required visit

One REQUIRED visit during the whole semester (20 minutes for this visit). This visit figures into the participation grade.  

• Visiting one drop-in hour=100% participation for one day

• Not visiting any drop-in hours=0 participation for one day

PEER TUTORING: One required visit for French 101 & 102

One REQUIRED visit during the whole semester (20 minutes for this visit). This visit figures into the participation grade.  

• Visiting Peer-Tutoring Once =100% participation for one day

• Not visiting Peer Tutoring = 0 participation for one day
