WELCOME TO FRENCH at UIC!
You must work completely alone on anything (all kinds of homework, exams, writing assignments etc.) turned in for a grade. You can ask your instructor questions on email, in class, and in drop-in hours.
Cheating = taking credit for someone else’s work.
Consequences for cheating/plagiarism may include: a zero on the assignment, an F in the class, suspension or expulsion from UIC.
Here are some examples of academic dishonesty/cheating:
Using of AI or translation writing tools (including, but not limited to, ChatGPT, Bard, or Sudowrite Google translate, any translating software) is NOT PERMITTED. Students who use these tools for class assignments undermine the goals and learning objectives for this course. Equally importantly, using these tools=not learning French. The instructor may submit student writing to an AI writing detector (e.g., GPTZero) at any point throughout the term. Any confirmed use of AI writing tools will be treated as cheating. See page 11 of UIC’s Student Disciplinary Policy.
Copying answers or work from any source. Using another student's work as your own.
Working with other students, friends, family members on any kind of work submitted for an individual grade. Please work with your instructor or an LCLC Peer Tutor (free). They will give you the tools to find the correct answers yourself.
Having a friend or tutor correct your work. Tutors can help you figure out questions about grammar, homework, course materials, and show you where to find sources for help in the course materials. Tutors do not correct homework or compositions. Be aware of this when you go to LCLC Peer Tutoring. See here for more information about what tutors can and cannot help with.
Giving information about the content of a quiz or exam to another student (in person, via email, text message, or any other way).
