Grade 8 Parent Information Night
December 4, 2024 6 - 8pm ~ Thank-you to everyone who attended!
6pm - Presentation to Grade 8 Parents/Guardians regarding registration for grade 9; courses and programs available at high school; answers to common questions.

6:30ish - 7:30 Explore WHSS Families can visit a variety of subject areas; meet teachers and see activities from classes "in-action".
*Students and parents/guardians can meet teachers and ask specific questions about course choices for high school
TIMES:
9:30am - Grade 8 Students welcomed at WHSS front doors and assigned to tour groups.
9:40 - 12:15 - Rotate through 6 different workshops
12:15 - 12:40 - Lunch in the cafeteria then depart WHSS and return to home school
Students not attending Arthur Public or Victoria Cross are more than welcome to attend this day to learn about and experience the grade 9 elective courses offered at WHSS.
Parents please register your student by emailing shelley.bell@ugdsb.on.ca with your child's name, school and your contact/emergency contact info.
Note: Grade 8 students attending Arthur Public and Victoria Cross are all registered to attend the day with their classes.
* the Wednesday before School starts is the "1st day for Grade 9s only".
Orientation day begins at 9am and ends approx at 1pm

Grade 8 students attend WHSS during the day to learn about and experience the amazing elective courses offered at WHSS.
VCPS & APS will attend with their class. *Times will be posted in October.

Grade 8 Family Information Night
In-person presentation at 6pm followed by
an open-house exploration of WHSS
Purple Course Selection Sheets due (APS, VCPS)
Grade 9 Course Selection and
Registration forms due
for new students from outside of Upper Grand DSB
Talk about courses with friends, older friends/siblings in high school, family, grade 8 teachers.
You will pick your courses for grade 9 in DECEMBER of your grade 8 year.
Visit the high school… attend games, plays, grade 8 family night, grade 9 orientation days, call the high school and inquire about tours.
If you are within walking distance, walk from your house to the high school and time how long it takes and familiarize yourself with your walking route.
When you are in town, walk around the school to become familiar.
Visit the high school website and the guidance website to understand what events occur and become familiar with how high school works.
VOLUNTEER FORM
Grade 8 students can start counting volunteer hours after their last day of school in June of Grade 8.
Please have THIS FILLABLE VOLUNTEER FORM signed by your supervisor AND by your parent before bringing to school.
