I am a theoretical physicist with a PhD from the University of Bonn, Germany (1996) and a BSc (1989) and an MSc (1991) in Physics from the Universidade Federal de São Carlos, Brazil. From 1997 to 1998 I was a postdoc at Yale University in the group of R. Shankar. Upon my return to Brazil, I became a professor at the Physics Institute in Porto Alegre (UFRGS), where I stayed for 24 years. Since August 2023 I am the Department of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Education at the Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar). My main interests are: Statistical Physics, General Relativity and History and Philosophy of Physics. Since my PhD I have kept a strong connection to Germany's scientific and cultural landscape, which represents an important part of my professional career.
