Students Trainings in IoT and Cloud Computing at CUST Islamabad

10 June 2026

SID Lab successfully conducted two hands-on, industry-aligned technical workshops at Capital University of Science & Technology (CUST), Islamabad. IoT session was led by Dr. Safdar Marwat, Engr. Waseem Khan, and Aimal Khan, this session covered ESP32/Arduino development, sensor integration, wireless dashboards, and smart automation systems. Cloud Computing session was conducted by Hafsa Javed, Fiza Nihar, and Usama Malik, this workshop focused on Google Cloud Platform (Firebase/Firestore), automated GitHub deployments, website hosting, and cloud security.

Bridging the gap between hardware and cloud technologies, these capacity-building sessions equipped participants with vital practical skills. Special thanks to Maaz Khan Yousafzai for providing exceptional media and photography coverage for the event.

Farewell for the Outgoing UG Researchers

GIKI Students Visit SID Lab

SID Lab warmly welcomed Final Year Project (FYP) students from GIKI’s Engineering Sciences and Artificial Intelligence programs. Dr. Safdar Marwat hosted the group, briefing them on the lab's ongoing research before leading an afternoon of deep technical exploration. The visitors toured the facility, engaging with the latest IoT projects, prototypes, and MVPs. Witnessing their bright minds, energy, and genuine curiosity was incredibly inspiring, and the SID Lab wishes them the absolute best as they complete their FYPs and transition into the professional tech landscape.

SID Lab Hosts The Learning Haven School

SID Lab hosted students and faculty from The Learning Haven School for an educational visit focused on STEM, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Designed to inspire curiosity-driven learning, the visit provided young minds with hands-on, early exposure to emerging technologies through real lab experiences. Workshop at University of Malakand

SID Lab conducted a workshop titled “Towards Smarter and Safer Technology Ecosystems” at the University of Malakand (UOM). The session focused on strengthening academic collaboration and raising awareness of secure technologies, covering key topics like Cloud Computing, Cryptography, IoT Security, Quantum Computing, and Post-Quantum Security. SID Lab extends its sincere appreciation to the UOM Department of Software Engineering and the IEEE Student Branch for their excellent coordination and hospitality.

STEAM Workshop for Faculty of KP Colleges

SID Lab delivered an introductory STEAM workshop to Assistant Professors of KP Colleges at the HEART Academy, Hayatabad. Jointly organized by the Higher Education Archives & Libraries Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and UET Peshawar, the session focused on bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on academic application.

AIoT Solutions Testing Visit of Cherat Coal Mines

20 April 2026

SID Lab visited the Mines Rescue Safety and Training Centre in Jalozai and the Shahkot Coal Mines in Cherat. Facilitated by Dr. Salim Raza (Mining Engineering, UET Peshawar) and welcomed by Engr. Bashir Ahmad, the visit allowed the team to explore traditional mining environments and test their AIoT safety solution. By collecting real-world data to refine their AI models for harsh underground conditions, the initiative successfully bridges the gap between computer engineering and the mining industry to create impactful, life-saving solutions.

IoT & AI Integration Workshop at ASME EFx

14 February 2026

SID Lab successfully delivered an IoT & AI Integration workshop at the ASME EFx event. The session provided a comprehensive roadmap from theory to live applications. Dr. Safdar Marwat introduced IoT and AI fundamentals, followed by a practical transition demo by Areebah Ali Butt. Team members Muhammad Ibad Khan, Muhammad Talha, Khizra Haroon, Muhammad Ahsan, and Ashar Amir showcased diverse IoT system projects, while Muhammad Afnan Khan and Maira Zafar presented live AI demonstrations. Romaisa Amjad concluded the technical track with a session on Agentic AI. The SID Lab extends its sincere thanks to ASME UET Peshawar for organizing this valuable collaborative event.

SID Lab concludes STEM Winter Camp 2026

14 January 2026

SID Lab successfully concluded its five-day STEM Winter Camp 2026. Designed to foster innovation, the hands-on program trained young students from leading institutions, including St. Mary’s, Brightside, Frontier Children’s Academy, Peshawar Model, and Franklin School System. The camp featured a technical competition with a top prize sponsored by the AWS Cloud Club UET Peshawar. The closing ceremony was graced by chief guests Prof. Dr. Syed Waqar Shah (Dean, FECE) and Prof. Dr. Laiq Hasan (Chairman, DCSE), and concluded with remarks from SID Lab Director, Dr. Safdar Marwat, on the vital role of early STEM education.

WSSP Manager Visits SID Lab to Discuss IoT & AI Solutions

SID Lab hosted Dr. Muhammad Ziad, Manager of Solid Waste at Water & Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP), to discuss modern technology solutions for urban waste management. Dr. Ziad shared valuable insights into Peshawar’s current waste management mechanisms and highlighted critical areas for improvement. In turn, the SID Lab team presented its ongoing research initiatives, exploring practical data-driven approaches to optimize, enhance, and potentially automate traditional waste processes using IoT and AI/ML. This engagement marks a significant step toward developing sustainable, impactful projects to advance Peshawar’s civic infrastructure.

SID Lab and GDG Host Texas Instruments Executive

SID Lab, in collaboration with the Google Developers Group (GDG) on Campus UET Peshawar, successfully hosted a power-packed session titled “From Concept to Company: Navigating Entrepreneurship & Business Start-Up for Tech Innovators.” Featuring Mr. Saleem Marwat (Business Development Manager at Texas Instruments, USA), the seminar provided valuable insights on innovation, startup strategies, and entrepreneurial mindsets to help students transform tech ideas into impactful ventures. The SID Lab extends its sincere gratitude to Mr. Marwat for also generously donating Texas Instruments equipment to support the lab's innovation ecosystem.

Visit to KP Elementary and Secondary Education Dept.

The Secured IoT Devices Lab (SID Lab), UET Peshawar, was invited at the KP Elementary & Secondary Education Department (ESED), Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It was a privilege to meet Mr. Muhammad Masood (Special Secretary, ESED) and Mr. Syed Zain Ullah Shah (Chief Planning Officer, ESED), and discuss the STEM Education initiative for primary and secondary schools.

The discussion highlighted the integration of Robotics, AI, and hands-on STEM activities into schools, building on SID Lab’s expertise in STEM.

ESED appreciated our past efforts and expressed strong interest in collaboration, marking a promising step towards preparing the next generation with future-ready skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The ceremony also recognized the dedicated efforts of our instructors: Masood Iqbal Marwat, Muhammad Maaz, Usama Salam, Maira Zafar, and Hafsa Syed, whose guidance, encouragement, and teamwork made the camp a valuable and memorable learning experience.

Summer 2025 - This summer, the SID Lab team and members took a refreshing break from their busy schedules and set out on an unforgettable trip to Nathiagali. Surrounded by cool breezes, lush green mountains, and breathtaking views, the journey was not just about fun—it was about making memories together.

The team enjoyed every moment, from long walks through pine forests to sharing laughter and stories over meals. It was a perfect blend of relaxation, bonding, and adventure, giving everyone a chance to recharge their minds.

Trips like these remind us that learning and growth are not limited to labs and classrooms—sometimes the best lessons come from shared experiences, teamwork, and enjoying nature together.

Celebrating Excellence: SID Lab Team Secures 18th Position at DPSPC 2025

Congratulations to Ibad Khan, Talha Khan and Muhammad Maaz for their outstanding performance at the Grand Finale of the Digital Pakistan Speed Programming Competition (DPSPC) 2025 by Ignite - National Technology Fund held at GIKI on 17 July 2025.

Securing 18th position out of 1,444 teams from across Pakistan is a remarkable accomplishment, reflecting their dedication, skill, and teamwork.

SID Lab takes great pride in its undergraduate researchers for representing excellence in competitive programming. Well done!
