We got both prototypes we sent out on saturday.
Having both prototypes in a tangible manner will help us decide between both choices.
On monday, we also received feedback from another class group as part of a class dynamic, so we decided to use this time as a kinda-focus group with all 5 members of said team.
All seemed to like the idea, but there is a slight favoritism towards using sunscreen humidified towels, specially from women. However, most of them found it as a very interesting way of using sunscreen.
We were also told to be careful with a rectangle-ish box design, as the corners could be very dangerous. Having said that, I must admit that I kinda injured myself with said corners when handling it.
Because of that, we decided to bring to life a variant of it (we see it more as another choice more than an evolution per-se, but seeing as it got improved due to outsider feedback it could be considered part of the next evolution): a circular design.
The idea is to have it printed and ready by thursday.
Isometric view of the new box.
Frontal view of the new box.
Laterial view of the new box.
Top view of the new box.
Initial sketch of the new box, including the lids.
Another option would be using pads, as some women cosmetic products do.
We consider this option to be more visually appealing to our customers, specially the female side.
Costs still need to be analyzed for all our options.
We've also decided to continue working with the sunscreen humidified towels, as people seem to like this idea more than the dispenser.
Advantages:
Reducing usage time when comparing it with the usual way of applying sunscreen.
Offering an option to always apply sunscreen with clean hands at a clean face.
Useful when going out to another places, specially those where it's easy for one to get dirty, such as the beach or when having a field day, and still be able to protect your skin with sunscreen.
The product, complemented with our app, should be very useful as it would remind the user to reapply sunscreen every two to three hours, which is the time when sunscreen starts losing it's effect.
Currently not allowed, but we want the product to be able to work with any kind of sunscreen that the user prefers. We know some people HAVE to use certain sunscreen (either because brand preference or because it was prescribed by a dermatologists), and we don't want them to feel left out.
Competition
We found that there is a brand that exists that sells sunscreen humidified towels. However, not only do they not offer the product with regular humidified towels, it is also intended to be used by DOGS. The SPF is also low, only at 15, when the recommended factor is one of AT LEAST 30 (should be 50 for people who live in cities with high UV indexes, such as Arequipa).
Also, the product is not available in Peru, and it has a fair share of negative criticism due to things like price and the wipes being to dry and damp. Because of this, we know specially what things to try to not have when making our product.
