Now that you know Benet, we thought it would be interesting for you to enroll as a new Survivor in a special 24x version of Benet, which means that in this simulation, one hour in real time is one day in simulated time. The drawing below shows the 11 status states that you have seen before, however now the lines are of two types: solid lines represent a time period determined by when the Survivor responds, and dotted lines represent a time determined by when RASC responds. You as Survivor will decide when to respond. Benet will tell you you should notify RASC of the death (in this simulation you will not call RASC), but you will fill out the Survivor Update form selecting "2 Reported Death to RASC."
You will play the role of a Survivor of an imaginary deceased who passed away today. This is a special 24x version of Benet, the Survivor Benefit Tracker and Survivor Advocate. Each hour will represent one day so that you can experience the entire Survivor Benefit Process 24 times faster than normal. You as the Survivor will go through the 11 status steps from Date of Death to Receiving Survivor Pension (simulated!). You determine the response time of the Survivor. Benet determines the response time of RASC by using probabilities derived from UCSC actual data for RASC response times, so it is based on facts.
You should find this an interesting experience. We would also like your feedback as to how the correspondence from Benet can be improved. Benet will mark the correspondence with the simulated 24x date and the Total Days since the Date of Death, so you can get a realistic feeling for how long the process takes, and why the Survivor Work Group created Benet in the first place. Let us know if Benet could do more for you. Unfortunately, RASC does not tell the Survivor or Benet what RASC is doing or when they will send the Survivor Packet or the Award Letter. Benet guesses based on statistics. What happens depends on you and on simulated RASC.
