SurvExp2 allows you to enter a hypothetical Deceased and yourself as hypothetical Survivor. Please see RASC Benet's Survivor Benefits Process State Diagram for an overview (the solid lines are Survivor actions and the dashed lines are RASC actions that are simulated by the SurvExp2 simulation, based on our measured RASC response times). After you click the red button below "Enroll in SurvExp2 Simulation," you will complete the Death report form which requires your email address and the date of retirement of the hypothetical Deceased, plus the type of Survivor benefits for which you are applying (ask your spouse). The relationship between date of retirement and date of marriage/partnership is critical, so either use the actual dates, or offset both dates by n days. The information you provide held in confidence. Benet will send you the link to a questionnaire for your family relationship to the Deceased, the campus and category (Emeriti, Retiree) of the Deceased. Read the questions carefully. As soon as you submit the questionnaire, Benet will analyze your case to determine if you are eligible for each type of benefit, and will then assemble and email you the appropriate Survivor Forms Packet. Then you pretend you completed the forms and inform Benet that you have submitted the forms. Do not call RASC, do not send the forms, do not call any campus offices!
From this point on, Benet will keep you informed of the progress of your case, the sending of your Award Statement, and any payments. Finally Benet will send you a summary of how much time you took and how much time RASC took. The time RASC takes is based on the statistics collected on 22 actual Survivor cases at UCSC (see the History section of this website. This simulation runs at 24x speed, 1 hour represents one day.
Every email from Benet includes a link to the Survivor Update form which allows you (the Survivor) to communicate with Benet. At any point in time you can click on "Request Status of My Case", and Benet will tell you right away. You can also send comments in the Comments section of the form. At the end, Benet will send you a history of all the interactions between you and Benet, and other people too, with a date for each event, based on the date in the simulation. [Survivors do not normally receive this History, it is aimed at Benet's System Manager.] Benet will also ask you for your feedback about your SurvExp2 experience. Please do respond, we need your responses to evaluate the system as seen by the Survivor. Realize that when Benet is operating in real-time, the emails are 24x more sparse, spread over a couple months or more, instead of a couple days.
Click the red "Enroll in SurvExp2 Simulation" button below to tell Benet about your Deceased and you, the Survivor. This will start your SurvExp2. Then respond appropriately to the emails from Benet to you by clicking on Survivor options on the Survivor Update form. A link is included in most emails Benet sends.
The simulation is complete after you complete the feedback form. Thank you for participating.
