To do a project, you need to submit a project proposal by Thursday, February 21. If you do a project, the last homework you will do is HW4.
We will accept some number of proposal, depending on the quality of the project, and also how well you did so far in class, so that we may have confidence that the project will be successful. One or two pages is sufficient; email your proposal to the instructor.
If you do a project, then you will have to:
- Submit the project weekly. We will not necessarily grade it, but if at the end the project is not satisfactory, we will look at how it progressed to try to understand the problem.
- Towards the end of the class, give a 10 to 20 minute presentation on interesting things you learned doing the project.
- Give a demo of the project at the time for the final exam of the class (there is otherwise no final exam).
We want to see well-rounded projects that touch several areas of development. The project should be built in Java (no Unity or PhoneGap), and touch several of the following:
- Nice UI
- Communication with cloud server
- Multiple activity coordination
- Storing some data permanently
- Setting, customization
- Sensors (camera, gps, etc)
- Media
Essentially, we are looking for projects where you will gain a good all-around experience in developing for Android.
