If students are losing engagement in a discussion, there are a few steps you can take to help re-energize the group and get them moving in the right direction:
Ask additional open-ended questions: Ask questions that encourage students to think critically and share their thoughts and opinions. This can help to re-engage students who may have lost interest.
Add new information: Connect the discussion to a current event or cultural trend. Ask students to make additional connections.
Encourage interaction: Highlight connections, contradictions, and disagreements among student posts. Point students to posts you think will interest them.
Get personal: Encourage students to share personal experiences or perspectives related to the topic. This can help to create a more engaging and dynamic discussion.
Reinforce the purpose of the discussion: Remind students of the purpose of the discussion and how it relates to their learning. Connect the discussion to the skills and knowledge they will gain from the course.
