Discussion groups can be used as a place for evaluation. Students can give one another direct feedback on a project (writing, artwork, a computer program) and revise their work accordingly. One benefit of peer review and critique is that students are exposed to more ideas, examples, and possibilities.
Focus your students’ efforts. Give them a limited set of criteria to evaluate their classmates’ work and discourage them from including any feedback that does not address the criteria.
Use objective criteria that are connected to the assignment prompt and learning objectives.
Compliments are nice, but they are usually not actionable as feedback. Encourage students to be constructive.
If students are expected to revise their work after peer review or critique, ask them to explain how they addressed each piece of feedback. If they choose not to address a specific piece of feedback, ask them to explain why.
What do I do?
You will post your video project in this whole group discussion forum for peer feedback by the Canvas due date on Sunday. Additionally, you are required to post a Critique for three of your peers before the submission window closes on Wednesday. Check the rubric, by clicking on the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of this assignment to view the grading criterion.
How do I do this?
Once your video is uploaded (you have already done this to submit to the instructor) then go back to the Canvas discussion assignments, click on the reply box, and click on the Grey V icon ("more external tools") and select “Media.” This allows you to embed your video directly into the reply box.
When do I need to do this?
By the due date for this discussion assignment Sunday midnight, please add your video project to the discussion post. You will have until Wednesday midnight to add your Critiques to your peers' posts. The submission window will close at 11:59 pm on Wednesday.
You've done an analysis of four notable museums and you've designed your own post-processual museum. Now it's time for you to apply what you've learned to one another's museums. This is an informal discussion, but please use the techniques, terminology, and theories of the course.
This discussion has two parts:
Post a photo of a display case, room, or cabinet from the museum you created. Do not include any analysis.
Choose at least one of your classmates' initial posts to reply to. Using only the information in the post, make some educated guesses about what you see. What is the theme? What is emphasized? What is not emphasized?
