Discussions do not always run themselves. They often require an instructor’s intervention. Your participation (and/or your teaching assistants’ participation) can shape a discussion in beneficial ways:
Modeling “good” posts (i.e., the kinds of posts you expect from students)
Showing students the possibilities for multimedia posts
Reinforcing insights and correcting misunderstandings
Guiding the discussion with additional questions
