The Mandt System
The Mandt System
The transition from the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) to The Mandt System is being implemented to enhance the district's approach to supporting students and staff through a focus on prevention and safety. The Mandt System emphasizes preventative strategies to reduce the need for crisis interventions, aligning with the district's commitment to proactive behavior management. Additionally, The Mandt System includes expanded physical disengagement and restraint techniques, equipping staff with a broader range of skills to manage challenging situations effectively.
Notice for 2025-2026 School Year: CPI & Mandt Certification
For the 2025-2026 school year, staff may continue using CPI skills taught by UCPS staff as long as they hold a valid Blue Card. However, staff are encouraged to recertify in Mandt as soon as possible. Blue Cards from other districts are not valid in UCPS. Priority for Mandt certification classes will be given to staff whose CPI certification expires in the same month or staff who do not have valid Blue Cards.

Ongoing review and learning help educators use Relational skills consistently and Technical skills only as a last resort. It reinforces best practices, reduces risk, and supports a safe, trauma-informed school environment. The following is required for staff certified in any physical skills.
School teams should meet monthly to review skills.
Weekly microlearnings are available in the online Mandt Student Learning Portfolio. Microlearnings take an average of 5 minutes. Staff are encouraged to use microlearnings in Monthly Skills Review meetings.
