Behavior Support Team

The Union County Public School Behavior Support Team operates under the UCPS Exceptional Children's Department. They are partially funded through the PRC 29 grant and support students with significant behavioral and emotional needs. In addition to direct support for BFC classrooms and facilitating Day Treatment referrals, the team conducts Help Sessions, training opportunities and support to school teams in all things behavior related.

After graduating from Appalachian State University in 2006, Samantha began her career in education as a 6th grade Language Arts teacher in Kannapolis, NC. Since then, Sam has gone on to earn a Master's Degree in Special Education from UNC Charlotte and has taught elementary general education as well as elementary and high school special education in charter and public schools. She lives in Indian Trail with her husband, three children and dog.

Samantha provides direct support to the Monroe Middle School PRC 29 caseload and Cuthbertson Middle and Forest Hills High School BFC.

Kira grew up in Alberta, Canada and now lives in Wesley Chapel, NC with her husband, two children and two dogs. Kira earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Special Education at Hood College then a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Study from the University of Texas at Arlington. Kira has worked as a teacher and program coordinator in a Private Residential Treatment Facility in Virginia and public school systems in Australia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. She joined Union County Public Schools in October 2018.

Kira provides direct support to BFC Programs at Porter Ridge Elementary and Rocky River Elementary along with conducting various professional development opportunities for UCPS staff.

Ashley grew up on Long Island, NY and now lives in Charlotte, NC. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Salve Regina University. Ashley earned her Master's Degree in Special Education and Applied Behavior Analysis from Endicott College. She has worked in private residential schools, a public school and within the clinic setting. Ashley joined Union County Public Schools in January 2024. 

Ashley supports EC students and their families throughout UCPS.

Social Worker

Mishaun has been with Union County Public Schools since August 2019. Mishaun grew up in a military family and relocated to Charlotte, NC in 2012. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from South Carolina State University and her Master's Degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University. She previously worked as a Foster Care/Adoption Social Worker for eighteen years in Washington, DC, Virginia and North Carolina.

Mishaun provides support to the PRC 29 caseload and Day Treatment program. She also supports EC students and their families throughout UCPS.

Behavior Specialist

Diana grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and now lives in Fort Mill, SC with her husband, two children and two cats. Diana earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at Kent State University then a Master's Degree in Special Education at Cleveland State University. Diana worked with adults with intellectual disabilities throughout her college experience and then at a K-12 school specializing in Autism. She joined Union County Public Schools in September 2011 as an EC Teacher supporting students with intensive behavioral needs.

Diana provides direct support to South Providence School and the BFC program at Prospect Elementary.

Kaitlin grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and moved to Wesley Chapel, NC with her husband, two children, and two dogs in November 2021. Kaitlin earned her Bachelor's Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Cincinnati and her Master's Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of Cincinnati. She is currently in school at Liberty University working on her Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership. Kaitlin taught 5–10-year-olds at a pediatric school for autism in Florida and has also provided home and clinic-based intervention services for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder both in Florida and in North Carolina.  

Kaitlin supports EC students and their families throughout UCPS.
