The Midwest Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls, also known as MACURH for short, is one (1) of eight (8) regions within NACURH, our international organization. MACURH hosts two (2) conferences per year; one in November, called the Regional Leadership Conference (RLC) and one in February, called the Regional Business Conference (RBC). Historically, every conference has been hosted by an institution, and everyone will travel to these schools and participate in philanthropy and make memories. NACURH 2020, RLC 2020, RBC 2021, NACURH 2021, RLC 2021, RBC 2022, and NACURH 2022 have all been hosted virtually due to the nature of the global pandemic. Institutions, like UCM, are allowed to take delegates only to RLC in November. Only the Moo Crew, which is the delegation team and consists of the USHA Executive Director, USHA AD of Regional Communications (ADRC), and NRHH Executive Vice President (NRHH Representative) are allowed to attend RBC. At RLC, there are educational sessions to attend, philanthropy sessions, network with students from other institutions, socials, and make new memories.
Consistent with the Articles of Incorporation of NACURH, Inc., the purpose of MACURH shall be to promote student intellectual, educational, cultural, physical and social welfare; to design and facilitate programs and informational services; to provide an avenue for assisting students to achieve fuller participation in the life of the college community and to extend the influence and good name of our organization everywhere. In recognition of student-leaders, hosted by the University of Central Missouri, who have served on the MACURH Regional Board of Directors, the following individuals have served on the board, and have dedicated their time, energy, and efforts into bettering the Midwest region:
Alex Davis, MACURH Coordinating Officer for RHA Development 2021-22
Dawson Davis, MACURH Associate Director for Administration and Finance 2021
Jayson Gray, MACURH 2002 No Frills Conference Chair
If you're interested in attending MACURH, want to go to a regional chat, want more information, or would like to get more involved with committees/task forces, please contact the USHA Executive Director, USHA ADRC, and/or the NRHH Executive Vice President. All of these individuals have regional chats on a bi-weekly basis and attend conferences. During conferences, the Moo Crew will sit in joint boardroom with all of the other Moo Crews from other schools, to vote on legislation, award bids, etc. In addition, they'll attend split boardroom (RHA Presidents, NCC, and NRHH) to cover more legislation, award bids, leadership and growth development, round tables, etc. With MACURH, there are opportunities to serve on regional committees and/or task forces. All of that information comes from the MACURH Regional Board of Directors (RBD) and is released in August/September. These committees and/or task forces occur when everyone on those committees/task forces are available. Usually each committee/task force is about one (1) hour bi-weekly or monthly. These opportunities are good for leadership development, and are a good way to impact the region but do not have a lot of time commitment outside of the one (1) hour bi-weekly or monthly. Students in the past from UCM have served on the MACURH Legislation and Development Committee, NRHH Values, Accelerating Racial Justice Task Force, OTMs Selections Committee, and some additional selection task forces to fill vacancies on the RBD.
In addition, MACURH will occasionally host Of the Month (OTM) writing parties, special chats, as well as a MACURH Standards Program. The five (5) standards of MACURH are: family, education, growth, leadership, and tradition. The Standards program is similar to the NACURH LEAD program, but doesn't take as long to complete.
NACURH is like MACURH but over eight (8) times larger. Wild, right? Absolutely. NACURH stands for the National Association for College and University Residence Halls, Inc. NACURH was first created in 1954, and then created the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) a decade later in 1964, to help supplement and render services to those who live in the residence halls. You can learn more about NRHH here. NACURH consists of more than 450+ institutions across the United States, Canada, Mexico, South Africa, Australia, and Qatar.
As an organization, NACURH creates environments that empower, motivate, and equip residence hall leaders by providing them with skills and resources in order for them to excel and positively impact their campus communities.
To get involved with NACURH, please contact the Executive Director or any of the Moo Crew members. Opportunities that are available are: the NACURH Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Program, committees, task forces, and working groups. These are typically sent out in emails over the summer, directly before or after the NACURH Annual Conference. The LEAD program is essentially a large reflection over your student leadership, diversity, equity, and inclusion. It takes a long time to complete, give it about a semester or two (2), because they are such large reflections to get done all at a single time. Visit nacurh.org for more information! NACURH has an OTMs Selections Committee that is one (1) hour commitment per month. Task Forces vary per year, so check in with a Moo Crew member for additional information.
