Hello, and welcome back to my blog. Today I read "Annoying Ways People Use Sources" which is written by Kyle D. Stedman. I really enjoyed reading this chapter because it showed areas where I could improve my writing and source usage, and it also pointed out some bad habits that already annoy me. The author Stedman opens up with an analogy of how having bad source usage habits is the same as being a slow driver in the fast lane. This was an excellent was to open the chapter because I am someone who is very annoyed of people with such drivinh habits, so it hooked me into the writing immediately while also understading the importance of having good citation practices. The author points out many annoying habits that make it irritating to read someone's writing. Stedman states that one of these habits is how when a writer does not properly incorporate the grammar of a quote into their writing, "a quotation blurts itself into the sentence in a way that doesn’t fit with the grammar that built up to quotation" (Stedman 249). Other habits include starting or ending a paragraph with a quote, adding too many quotes in a row, and failing to indroduce a quote before using it. Overall, this was a very useful piece of writing that will help me improve my quotes and citations moving forward.
