The confirmed teaching schedule for each week will be distributed by the Cardiology Lead Residents via email on the Sunday before the week starts on Monday. Weekly teaching schedules can be found on the Schedules page.
If a Named Holiday (see PARA Agreement Article 21) falls on a weekday, any teaching session or rounds originally scheduled for that day will be rescheduled or cancelled. Only trainees scheduled for call are required to report for service on Named Holidays.
Cardiology and Department of Medicine (DoM) Grand Rounds are held weekly from September to June. Rounds are suspended for summer vacation in July and August as well as during Winter Break in late December / early January.
Orientation is held in person on the first business day of each block from 7:30 - 8:00 am in 4A9.016 Maz unless otherwise indicated in the Google calendar invitation. See the Orientation page for more information. Orientation is not recorded.
ECG teaching is held in person every Tuesday from 8:00 - 9:00 am in 4A9.016 Maz unless otherwise indicated in the Google calendar invitation. If the session is held virtually, the presentation is recorded when possible and the recording is made available to trainees. The weekly topics are:

The Division of Cardiology holds Grand Rounds every Wednesday between September through June from 8:00 - 9:00 am. Rounds are usually held as a hybrid event with both in person and virtual attendance options. An email invitation from the Division will be forwarded to trainees for each scheduled session. Rounds are recorded when possible and the recordings are made available to trainees.
Cardiology topic teaching is held in person every Thursday from 8:00 - 9:00 am in 4A9.016 Maz unless otherwise indicated in the Google calendar invitation. The DoM holds Grand Rounds every Fridays between September through June from 8:00 - 9:00 am. Rounds are usually held as a hybrid event with both in person and virtual attendance options. Junior presentations are held in person in 4A9.016 Maz on two Mondays of the block from 8:00 - 9:00 am. In blocks that do not have a Named Holiday, presentations are held on the last two Mondays. In blocks with a Named Holiday, the timing of the Monday presentations depends on the timing of the holiday. All junior residents are asked to give a short 8 - 10 minute presentation for their peers about a Cardiology topic of their choice. More information is provided by the Cardiology Lead Residents during orientation and by email during the first week of the block. If you would like to present on a specific Monday, please notify the Lead Residents at cardres@ualberta.ca. Presentations are not recorded.
A code simulation session is scheduled for trainees on the third Friday afternoon of each block. The session is held in 5A7 CICU from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Trainees are asked to arrive by 12:45 pm for a pre-simulation briefing session.
On the three Friday afternoons each block when the simulation session is not scheduled, residents on the CICU/Triage rotation and registered in an Internal Medicine program who are PGY-2 or higher may have the opportunity to visit the Cardiac Catheterization Lab (CCL, Maz Level 2) for an alternative learning experience. Residents who are interested in this opportunity are welcome to discuss their interest with the Cardiology senior resident on CICU who can assist with organization. Please note patient care needs on your regularly assigned service must be adequately met before your request to visit the Cath Lab may be approved.
The Division of Cardiology hosts virtual Educational Case Rounds on the last Friday of each block from 12:00 - 1:00 pm. An email invitation from the Division will be forwarded to residents during the week of the session. Medical students are excused. Educational Case Rounds are not recorded.
